In the game, players assume the identity of District members sent on a mission in order to build their alliance, liberate their District, and rebuild Panem.

Girl on Fire iOS Game Releases 3/22!

We're almost there! The anticipated Girl on Fire for iOS is set to release this Thursday, March 22nd. Luckily, Kotaku.com got their first look at the game:

The game is a prequel to the movie, and, unlike so many movie tie-ins, it's got a shot at being good.
We've got the first look at the game in action from the folks at Lionsgate, and, what do you know? It's a runner, like the great iPhone game Canabalt. That makes perfect sense, since the game—full title: The Hunger Games: Girl on Fire—was created by a team led by Canabalt creator Adam Saltsman.
Girl on Fire stars Hunger Games heroine Katniss Everdeen and is set in the forest outside her home, where, according to the official game summary, she is "attacked by swarms of Capitol-engineered tracker jackers." The game is set before the movie but references the film and the Suzanne Collins book on which all of this is based. You can run, jump levels, aim and shoot—all a bit more complex than Canabalt but hopefully just as fun.

First Look At Hunger Games Adventures Facebook Game!

We are beside ourselves with our excitement, not just for the film, but for the soon to be released Facebook Game Hunger Games adventures. Huffington Post gets the very first look at the game:

The company behind the game is Funtactix, which also made online games for the movies "Mission: Impossible" and "Rango."
According to Funtactix CEO Sam Glassenberg, "The Hunger Games Adventures" will be free to play, and takes place in an isometric version of Panem. Players, who play as characters bearing their own names rather than as characters from the books, will be able to spend real-world money in order to purchase upgrades and tools that will make their progress through the game smoother, but its makers insist that players will also be able fully to enjoy the gameplay without having to pay out any money.
At the game's heart will be "World of Warcraft"-like quests, initially given by "The Hunger Games" characters Katniss and Peeta, and which involve completing simple in-game tasks. Players will also have their own "safe area" in the forest, where their energy will recharge, and which can be both decorated and fitted with in-game equipment.
The game will be played solo, however in order to complete certain tasks, players might need to share an item with or receive an item from a friend who is also playing the game.
As a 'casual' Facebook game, the world is less edgy than that of either the books or the movie. Players cannot be killed - an unsuccessful skirmish merely results in their energy being depleted, forcing a withdrawal to 'recharge', while defeated enemies either walk away or vanish. The game design is very child-friendly, similar to that of the hugely popular Farmville (albeit more graphically sophisticated), and players use the mouse pointer to search, attack, chop down trees and collect gems.
If the player suddenly quits Facebook, or their internet connection drops, then the in-game state will freeze until the player returns.
The game will run within Facebook in an internet browser window, and its makers say that it will be perfectly playable on netbooks as well as high-end computers, with little noticeable difference in graphics or gameplay. However, as it uses the multimedia platform Flash, it will not be playable on cellphones or iPads.
The game launches worldwide on March 23rd, simultaneously with the North American opening of the movie. At launch, only District 12 of North America will be explorable; however, other districts, as well as the Capitol itself, will apparently be 'unlocked' in the future. The game's entire design will also adapt and change as the second and third movies are released, according to Funtactix.
Although players will complete quests that aren't in the books or movies, there don't appear to be any fundamental narrative reveals at this stage, other than the first-ever official map of Panem. However, if the excitement surrounding the forthcoming movies is anything to go by, The Hunger Games Adventures is going to be a hugely popular add-on to the series, particularly with teenagers, in the wait for the next two movie installments.

We can't wait!! Rest assured I will be playing this game constantly. It also looks to be extremely similar to the way The Sims Social Facebook game works as well. You can sign up for the BETA, too!

New Details On "The Hunger Games Girl On Fire" iOS Game

We're a little too excited about this game. Tiffany and I are big gamers, and on the go we are always pulling out our iPhones and iTouches asking each other what the other is playing. We are jumping up in down in our chairs over this game and can't WAIT for this to be released. If you're hungry like us for this game, check out some new behind the scenes details about the game:

It's a different world now, one in which the official tie-in video game for a major motion picture is a game for phones, designed by a tiny team of people best known for games they made without publishers. It's a game with a deliberate retro aesthetic, as you can see in the new "pixel poster" for the upcoming game (visible in full after the break). Author Suzanne Collins even chimed in with suggestions. How on earth did this all happen?

The rise of iOS gaming is a separate, and larger topic, but pinpointing the design of this particular one was much simpler. "From the get-go my inspiration and motivation for this, aesthetically, has been to just pretend I am making a movie tie-in game for the Super Nintendo, only actually fun to play," Saltsman told Joystiq, explaining the look.
"So as far as the setting, and the story, and the things that are in the game, these things are all sourced directly from the film, and by extension the books, and we even got some guidance on specific ideas from Suzanne Collins herself. But visually our inspiration comes from classic Sega Genesis games, especially Treasure games, and even more modern pixel art games like you see coming out of WayForward the last few years."

The use of pixel art helps cement Girl on Fire as a "game," separate from its source material. "I feel like if we're going to make a video game based on a film," he said, "then it shouldn't pretend to be anything else but a video game. Like to me intentionally using a pixelated style of presentation is a maybe not-so-subtle way of saying 'this is its own thing.'" As its own thing, Girl on Fire takes place within the universe of the books, but covers new events.

The fact that they are trying to emulate the old Sega Genesis and Nintendo aesthetic makes us so excited about this, we can't contain ourselves. If you have an iPhone, iPad, or iTouch, make sure you get this when it releases on March 23rd!

New "Girl on Fire" Game Coming to IOS: iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch!

Today TheCapitolPN Twitter retweeted this blog post about an upcoming Hunger Games game that will become available for iPhones, iPod Touches, and iPads.
And so, I am happy to announce that I am collaborating with Lionsgate and a kind of indie dream-team to make The Hunger Games: Girl on Fire for iOS. Mark Johns (Tap Tap Dance) and Kevin Coulton, the minds behind Doomlaser (Hot Throttle, Space Barnacle), are fleshing out the design while they program the game from scratch. Paul Veer (Super Crate Box, Serious Sam: The Random Encounter) is the lead artist and animator. Daniel Baranowsky (Canabalt, Super Meat Boy) is composing an original soundtrack inspired by the film. Ozone Sound & Music (Max and Al's Heavy-Duty) are handling the sound effects, and the one and only Kert Gartner (Winnitron) will be putting together our launch trailer. It is a genuine honor to get to work alongside these fantastic people, and this project would not be possible without them.
The Hunger Games: Girl on Fire is coming soon to your iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, timed to theatrical release.

Too cool for school! You may not know this, but Tiffany & I are huge gamers. When it comes to me in particular, I have a very soft spot for 8-bit and 16-bit old school graphics. You can imagine how psyched I am about this by just seeing the title treatment.

Just a short while ago, TheCapitolPN also directed followers to the facebook app for the game:
Check out the description of the game:

Really nice to know this won't be taking place in the arena, as that would a little messed up for a video game.
