Why Hunger Games Fans Should Attend Universal's Halloween Horror Nights!

Tonight happens to be the very first night of Halloween Horror Nights, and you need to trust us when we say IT'S A MUST FOR HUNGER GAMES FANS!

Perhaps you may be familiar with the Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure show that runs during the event. This hilarious parody show is known for skewering the latest in pop culture, dance numbers, and this year - some crazy awesome pyrotechnics.

I expected to see perhaps a Hunger Games reference in at least one part of the show, but how wrong I was. Clearly I had forgotten what a huge impact The Hunger Games has made on the general public and headlines over the past year.

Since the event has just begun, we won't spoil you on the specifics but take a look at some pictures from the show in Hollywood:

Notice the set complete with pedestals, weapons, and a Cornucopia

Character resembling Effie havin' hangs with Death. NBD.

If you wanna see the show for yourself, you can buy tickets for Halloween Horror Nights Hollywood or Orlando (Unfortunately, we have no idea what the Orlando Bill and Ted show is like).

Also, with the new editions of The Walking Dead and Silent Hill, this year's Halloween Horror Nights is the best yet!

Event goes from September 21st - October 31st during weekends!

How to Enter Set Visit Sweepstakes from iPad!

Last week, we posted the press release of The Hunger Games Adventures releasing on iPad as well as the announcement of a sweepstakes to win a Catching Fire set visit. As mentioned in the latter, the press release stated that fans can also enter through the Hunger Games Adventures iPad app. Unfortunately, the press release never stated HOW you can enter through the new iPad app! Wonder no further, Hunger Games fans!

As you can see, all you have to do is screen cap your character (press the home and power button at the same time), and send it to entry@CatchingFireAdventures.com. They will send you an email back with a link to a sweepstakes entry page! May the odds be ever in your favor...

Capitol Party To Be Filmed at Swan House in Atlanta

More Catching Fire locations! The Swan House in Atlanta is apparently set to film a Capitol party scene:
Thanks to one of our tipsters we’ve now learned the Swan House will be used for a party scene for The Capitol on Sept 26, 27, 28. They also told us the shoot will include some custom-made costumes for the party goers, including a suit made out of bricks.
There was also a casting call posted last week for dancers who can waltz which would make sense for an elaborate party scene.

According to the home’s website, it is “an elegant, classically styled mansion built in 1928 for the Edward H. Inman family, heirs to a cotton brokerage fortune.” The website also notes the historic mansion will be closed from September 17 – 28.

Katniss Cosplay at Comikaze Expo!

If you've been with us in the past year, you'd remember that we went to the first Comikaze Expo in LA and was quite disappointed to see a lack of Hunger Games spirit there. Unfortunately, we were unable to go this year, but luckily G4 has posted an AWESOME Katniss cosplayer:

Too bad we weren't able to go, we would have asked this fine human being how she got the hookups on her outfit! If you're out there.....contact us so that we may give you our praises!

The Hunger Games Adventures Available for iPad!

FUNTACTIX AND LIONSGATE ANNOUNCE THE HUNGER GAMES ADVENTURES FOR iPad IS NOW AVAILABLE

Funtactix, a worldwide developer and publisher of social games based on the world’s premiere entertainment brands, in partnership with Lionsgate, today announced that The Hunger Games Adventures – the official social game for the Hunger Games franchise – is now available for iPad. With this release, tablet gamers can now explore what Facebook gamers have continued to enjoy in-game, including new, authentic Hunger Games stories and content such as the Map of Panem!

Since its debut in March on Facebook alongside the release of the blockbuster film in theaters, The Hunger Games Adventures has quickly become one of the top adventure games on the platform, receiving stellar reviews from critics and fans alike across its player base of millions. As tablet and mobile gaming continues its rapid growth, Funtactix and Lionsgate have provided a new way for fans of all ages to experience the game on the iPad.

“Bringing The Hunger Games Adventures to the iPad allows a new group of fans to experience what millions have played on Facebook,” said Sam Glassenberg, CEO of Funtactix. ”Using the iPad’s touch screen creates a more intimate and accessible experience for fans as they journey through the deep, authentic world on a quest to become the next hero of Panem.”

In The Hunger Games Adventures, players embark on a daring adventure beyond the fence of District 12, getting a chance to explore the other districts in Panem for the very first time. By completing new chapters, fans uncover character back-stories and receive new and exclusive content from The Hunger Games franchise, not available anywhere else. Along the journey, they are accompanied by their favorite characters – including Katniss, Peeta and Gale – for help and guidance as they complete quests and explore the vast universe of Panem.

Funtactix and Lionsgate continue to work together to provide the game’s audience with a steady flow of fresh, dynamic content that continues the story of The Hunger Games universe in between film releases. Recently, players were presented in game with the first-ever map of Panem depicting the actual locations of Districts 2, 11 and 12 as well as the Capitol in the post-apocalyptic world created by Collins. Revealing such a central piece of a major global franchise's canon inside a social game had never been done before. The release of the map of Panem raises social gaming to a whole new level: realizing the potential of social games as a mature gaming and storytelling platform. The remaining districts will be revealed to both iPad and Facebook players as they are introduced to the game.

The Hunger Games Adventures is now available for free from the App Store on iPad or at: http://itunes.apple.com/app/hunger-games-adventures-official/id559845361?mt=8

Catching Fire Possible Shooting Locations

Here's what the haps are on shooting locations for Catching Fire!

In addition to the GWCC we’ve heard from a few sources that filming is (or will soon be) taking place at The Goat Farm Arts Center in Atlanta as well as Amicalola Falls in Dawsonville.
As for the cast, they seem to be spending a lot of time in North Druid Hills, where it is rumored they are staying for the duration of the shoot.
According to a source on the set, Liam Hemsworth and Jennifer Lawrence were both there yesterday and Jennifer was spotted working with the bow and arrow.
Goat Farm Arts Center

Amicalola Falls

If these reports are true, looks like Amicalola Falls couldn't be used for anything else but the woods of District 12. As for the Goat Farm Arts Center, it may be used for anything in victory tour but more than anything looks like something that might be used for District 12. According to this article, productions signs will say "GCX"

Oh and one last note for those of you who live in the area and planning on stalking the sets: DON'T BE CREEPERS!

The Conga Line of Continuity

We're encouraging a fan site conga line of continuity! We're hoping it looks like this.
Lionsgate, are you listening? The fans are yelling out to whoever wants to listen, "We NEED CONTINUITY!" This is a concern that I believe is fair to say every fan is clamoring for, and we cannot stand by hoping to see if Catching Fire will deliver. If you haven't already, read Tiffany's Victor's Village post about continuity. READ IT! This is the first of many (we hope) posts from across the web that will echo across The Hunger Games fandom and hopefully into the minds of those at Lionsgate. To which we are naming: The Conga Line of Continuity.

It's been apparent through the special features of The Hunger Games DVD that the producers and those involved have the right idea of how to honor the text through film and satisfying the fans' concern. We know they are listening. But how loud of a racket do we need to make? We're just trying to set this fan concern into motion. Why is it so hard for Hollywood to get things right? I love the Harry Potter movies, but after the honeymoon period of the films coming out, I am just realizing how poor they ended up being as adaptations. Most of those films separately are fantastic films and works of art, but we lost continuity. For me, losing the continuity lost the integrity of the movies overall for me. Isn't the whole point of films to tell a cohesive story?

anyone notice how Tiffany ended her VV post?
I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sick and tired of franchises falling short. I know that different directors mean different visions, but can't we reach a middle ground? All we're asking is to please not assume that everyone has read the books, plan a pay off for every set up, and have the tones of the first film echo in Catching Fire. Catching Fire is a continuation of the trilogy, and like all trilogies, should function as one unit. So far The Hunger Games franchise has gone above and beyond to honor the text and satisfy the fans. Therefore, I feel we have an opportunity to have the most faithful and cohesive film franchise in recent history. Come on guys, give us a reason to want to hold a Hunger Games marathon!

So Hunger Games fans and fan sites, this is your invitation from us to our rockin' continuity party. There will be pie and punch. Won't you join our conga line of continuity by speaking out?

COMMUNITY WILL SPOOF THE HUNGER GAMES!

Okay, Tiffany and I (Courtney) are severely shaking in our seats because COMMUNITY IS SPOOFING THE HUNGER GAMES. Community is one of our favorite shows, so naturally we are extremely thrilled to see they are taking on The Hunger Games. I mean, look at the dean! Look at him! HE LOOKS FABULOUS! Entertainment Weekly reports:

In the season 4 premiere (NBC, Oct. 19), you will be treated to a parody of — or shall we say, tribute to — The Hunger Games. When the Greendale student records seem to be lost, the Dean (Jim Rash) stages a Hunger Games-like competition to determine enrollment in a class called The History of Ice Cream.

Will you be tuning in?

Santa Monica, CA, September 7, 2012- Lionsgate® and the filmmakers of THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE are pleased to announce that Jeffrey Wright has been cast in the role of Beetee in the much anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ worldwide smash hit novel Catching Fire. Hailing from District 3, Beetee earns the nickname “Volts” because of his electronics expertise.

Critically acclaimed and celebrated by audiences for his performances in theater and on film and television, Wright garnered a Tony® Award in 1994 for his work in Tony Kushner's Pulitzer Prize-winning epic “Angels in America” which he reprised in HBO's 2003 mini-series adaptation, earning both a Golden Globe® and an Emmy®.  He has played memorable roles in films as diverse as BASQUIAT, SOURCE CODE, CASINO ROYALE and QUANTUM OF SOLACE, W, SYRIANA, and CADILLAC RECORDS.  Wright can next be seen with Mark Walhberg, Russell Crowe and Catherine Zeta-Jones in Allen Hughes' political thriller BROKEN CITY.

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE will be directed by Francis Lawrence, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. The novel on which the film is based is the second in a trilogy that has sold more than 50 million books in print and digital in the U.S. alone.

Canton, Ohio Has Two Connections to Catching Fire: Bruno Gunn and Dana Schneider

CantonRep.com, a publication for Stark County in Ohio, reported Bruno Gunn's casting in Catching Fire and quoted his brother, Michael Giolelli, giving us some insight on one of the newest additions to the Hunger Games family.
“This is Bruno’s biggest role ever. It’s going to open doors for him big time,” said the actor’s understandably excited brother, Michael Gioielli. “He’s on cloud nine right now.”

“Catching Fire” will begin shooting next week in Atlanta, then the production will move to Hawaii.

“He’s got a lot of fight scenes,” Michael said. “He’s going to be on-set for at least five months.”
Also the article revealed that the jewelry designer for The Hunger Games, Dana Schneider, will be returning for Catching Fire to create some new pieces.
This is Canton’s second direct connection to “Catching Fire.” Dana Schneider, a Canton native who has had extensive experience designing jewelry for high-profile feature films, created the iconic Mockingjay pin worn by Jennifer Lawrence in “The Hunger Games.”
And for the sequel, “Catching Fire,” she is creating another Mockingjay pin as well as other pieces of jewelry for two other main characters.
“They are very complicated and artistically very challenging,” Schneider said.

The Hunger Games Claims the Top Spot for DVD Sales and Rentals for the 2nd Week in a Row!

The Hollywood Reporter reported on Wednesday that The Hunger Games was the #1 DVD seller and rental for the second week in a row!
Nearly a dozen new home video releases appeared in the top 20 on the national sales charts the week ending Aug. 26, but none could break the hold of two high-profile theatricals already available on disc.
Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games and Universal Studios’ Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax repeated at No. 1 and No. 2 on both the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert chart, which tracks overall disc sales, and Nielsen’s dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart.
...
The Hunger Games also hung on to the No. 1 spot on Home Media Magazine’s rental chart, with The Dictator bowing at No. 2.
We're loving the mention of Home Media Magazine, who interviewed both of your Welcome to District 12 admins in early August regarding The Hunger Games on DVD.
