It is now the final week before Hunger Games hits theaters, and we're continuing to give away awesome prizes through March 23 for our 12 Days of Hunger Games Giveaways! Today, we're giving away $50 in Fandango Bucks, a $100 promo code for a personalized District T-shirt and other Hunger Games merchandise, courtesy of CafePress, and a special gaming code to participate in The Hunger Games Adventures – the official Facebook game! The winner of each day will also be entered in our drawing for the grand prize of a Hunger Games-customized limited edition HP laptop, courtesy of the Microsoft Store. Check out the official rules for 12 Days of 'Hunger Games' Giveaways.
Before the games begin, each tribute is given a private, 15-minute session to show a talent to the Gamemakers. To enter our giveaway, simply post a comment to this blog post (one blog post comment per entrant please, and entrants must be 18+ and U.S. residents only) with your answer to the following: What special skill or talent would you show the Gamemakers?

The Hunger Games Adventures: So Long, Productivity! PLUS -- CHANCE TO WIN CODES!

What would happen if Sim Social on Facebook and The Hunger Games had a virtual baby? Well, behold, The Hunger Games Adventures. Being huge gamers, we were so honored and lucky to test this baby out. Needless to say it's been our priority this past week. Hunger Games Adventures is a Facebook game (currently in Beta) in which you explore District 12 and complete quests. The game will also take you to different districts around Panem and we'll get our first look of a real map of Panem. Unfortunately, the version we played did not have this aspect up and running, but we did get to run around all parts, inside and outside of District 12's fence.

Tiff: In the last couple of years, I had to cut myself off from Facebook games because I just get too addicted to them. But when I found out that there was going to be a Hunger Games Facebook game, I knew I'd have to end my embargo.

The Hunger Games Adventures is a great way to make a game out of this wonderful series without violating the morals and ideas that the story is trying to get across to audiences. In The Hunger Games Adventures, you complete quests by helping various characters within District 12, all the while building your Forest Escape.

The format of the game is very much in line with a lot of Facebook games like Farmville. You buy items using "goods" as your currency. Sometimes you need extra items to "finish" them before you can utilize the item. And after they've been used, you must wait a certain amount of time before you can use it again.

It's tricky making a game out of The Hunger Games so keeping it in District 12 is smart. Also most of the quests are based on helping people. Even when trying to get rid of frightening creatures, you don't kill; you "banish" them.

Truthfully, I'm addicted to this game. I can't wait to see more of what this game has to offer.

Courtney: I was dangerously addicted in the first five minutes. As you meet characters such as Gale, he really conveys to the player the bad conditions in District 12, and how the districts have no choice but to obey. It's nice that they put this in as the tone of the game, so as not to convey there an upbeat mood or happiness to the situation. Still, you are put in the mindset of that world. Chores need to be done, snares need to be set, and people need to be saved.

That being said, the gameplay is EASY. Anyone can play this game, no particular skill is needed. It's pretty neat to be able to decorate your "Forest Escape", not with superfluous items, but things like snares, archery targets, strawberry bushes, or even primroses. Furthermore, the more goods you acquire (think Farmville logistics), the more you can expand your forest escape, revealing new squares of land that might hold a mysterious crate to open.

Keep in mind, all this is in the setting of District 12. We haven't even discovered what the map of Panem's function will be, or what other specific locations we might be able to explore. The quests in District 12 are pretty entertaining enough. I think what fans will enjoy most, is to travel to other parts of District 12 that you don't find out about until Catching Fire. It was nice to see these locations that aren't necessarily in the new movie.

We give this game a MUST PLAY, if even for a little bit, for those who aren't the game playing type. We finished the demo for the storyline, but if it says anything at all, Tiff and I are STILL playing!

Hey-- WE'RE NOT DONE YET! Scroll down for a giveaway!!

Hunger Games Set Visit Contest Winners Speak!

WINNERS!

MTV's Hollywood Crush recently posted testimonials from the SUPER lucky fans who won the sweepstakes to visit The Hunger Games set!

Alexander Swenson (USA):
Upon arriving to "The Hunger Games" set, ideas about what part of the "Hunger Games" world I was going to see kept swirling through my head. Would I be part of the group sending Katniss off to her death? Or building up my strength in the Training Center with the other tributes? Would I be escorted into the confines of the Capitol for the first time like Katniss did after her departure from District 12? Or staring up at the Cornucopia, juggling my options of whether to run or fight for supplies, all while the countdown strikes down to zero. Honestly, I had no idea what to expect. All I knew was that I was excited.
To say that I was amazed would be an understatement; I was more than just amazed, I was stunned. We got a glimpse and a behind-the-scenes view of several set locations, which included the Gamemakers' Headquarters and the Districts, and a full tour of the Training Center. It was remarkable how something I read several months earlier on paper could be translated into reality. I remember talking with several of the actors and how they said the Training Center “was their playground” and on their first day, how they “spent a majority of the day just climbing around and checking it out." It was truly fascinating.
All the actors were very friendly. Even the director, Gary Ross, came over and gave us a huge welcome. A majority of the cast stayed around with us when they weren’t filming and made sure to point out all the cool stuff that they’ve become accustomed to. I feel like I know almost every nook and cranny of the Training Center thanks to them! They made us feel like an honorary member of the cast for the day.
When I saw the trailer for the first time, I was astonished. I probably watched it enough times to make my computer want to give out and never turn back on again. Right now and in the future, every time I watch the trailer, see the movie, and beyond, I can say that I met those actors, talked with them, and experienced their lives. I can tell people that I was at the Training Center and stood in the center, that I saw the set of the Districts and the Gamemakers’ Headquarters, and that I experienced, first hand, the "Hunger Games" world. I can shout out to everyone that the odds were definitely in my favor!
Sam Solomon (Canada):
The trip was an experience of a lifetime! It was inspiring to see the positive atmosphere Gary Ross created.
My favourite thing about the trip was that the young actors we met were all so welcoming and friendly; it was impossible not to get along with them.
Ever since I watched the trailer, I can hardly contain myself; it looks incredible! It reveals a perfect amount for fans of the book because it doesn't show the "how will they do that" parts like the flaming entrance dress, but they showed little, interesting things, like the hovercrafts and Rue's song.
I was worried that it would be tough to describe what the Games were, but the trailer does it perfectly for anyone who hasn't read the books!
I can't wait for March 23!
Philippa Davey (UK):
The trailer looks completely awesome—and it made my eyes well up. It has captured the spirit of the books to the letter and the casting is amazing.
We saw a tiny bit of the trailer being filmed—the portion where Katniss is running down the blocks—and it was just so exciting to see it in the trailer. It made the whole experience seem real somehow! I literally cannot wait until March to see the film; it comes across so movingly.
I would say it reflects what we saw—which was mainly the Training Arena on the day we were there, and the fabulous, enormous interior set built for that.
I was so thrilled to see the film developing into a very moving and exciting story without losing one iota of the drama and emotion of the books.
Natasha Raynor (Australia):
We saw the training sessions being filmed so it was amazing to see elements of these in the trailer. We also met Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson on set, so it was great to see them in character!
I was amazed by the secrecy and seclusion of the set. It was surreal and so much to take in. It was great to meet people from the other countries who were also big fans of the books too.
Amelie Murmann (Germany):
Before I visited the set of "The Hunger Games" movie, I was afraid that they'd maybe not get the message of the books. Or that the actors won't be able to really BE that role. But now, I'm sure, that the movie is going to be just perfect! I've met the actors of the tributes and they are all fitting perfectly! And they're also nice and open and...just the best! That day was fascinating and reassuring and... *sigh* perfect!
And now I've seen the trailer, which convinced me even more. Whoever made the decisions about the scenes in the trailer did an amazing job. I also LOVE the music, because this epic story would be nothing without the right music, right? And I like how they've shown the whole story of the first book without showing too much footage of the Arena. This movie's gonna be great and I'm definitely gonna go watch it more than once. Okay, okay, more than three times...probably around 10 times... Or more...

Buttercup Contest: Vote for Raindrop!

Raindrop's photoshoot: suprisingly, a success.

As you may have heard, the totally awesome Victor's Village is hosting a Buttercup contest. Most likely the best idea ever. I thought this might be the only opportune time where I can legitimately post about my own Buttercup: Raindrop.

Raindrop. An enigma
I got Raindrop in 1998, given to me by my parents from the next door neighbor's of my then best friend. I would find out later that Raindrop was raised in a not so loving situation. His mom, brothers and sisters were held in a confined area, only to be tormented by loud barking dogs quite closely to their living space. Raindrop wasn't very well taken care of either, since he had a few health problems that needed to be dealt with when he came into our home. My parents lovingly dubbed him "Dumpster Kitty".

We named him Raindrop due to his white markings on his face, and well, I don't know if you'd call him a people cat. When he was a kitten he would sit on my mom's lap despite all the pins and needles sticking out of the quilt she'd been working on. This eventually stopped when he got older. For the most part he would prowl around the house, doing as he pleased. He's incredibly independent as you can leave him for days on end (granted you leave him enough food and water) and he'll be just fine when you return. He does not seek yours, mine, or anyone else's favor. My aunt calls him "The Cougar".

Pet this cat
It was the first day of Summer (I believe it was around junior high) and I was watching morning cartoons sitting on the couch. Lo and behold Raindrop jumped on the couch and curled up in my lap. This was huge! He stayed there for about five minutes and then got up and hopped off the couch. Little did I know that would be the first and only time Raindrop sat in my lap entirely of his own accord.

Nowadays, Raindrop allows me to pet him much more. Maybe it's his old age, I don't know. I've spent 13 years trying to figure this cat out, trying to find a chink in his armor that will allow me to hold him or have him in my lap more than half a minute. No such luck. At least he has improved his people skills. He'll let you pet him. Go ahead, I encourage it! He does enjoy it. But pet at your own risk because one minute he'll be happy as a clam and next minute your fingers are in his jaws.

Reading the Hunger Games makes me think that if we were living in Panem, Raindrop would no doubt have to be an outdoor cat. If I lived in District 12, I'd put money on if Buttercup and Raindrop were to meet face to face they would either A. engage in a fight to the death or B. get along extremely well and become hunting buddies.

So onto the task at hand: The Buttercup Contest. I really feel Raindrop is a true contender. He certainly channels Buttercup most of the time, and I feel the only time Raindrop shows even some kind of affection for me it's during feeding time. "This is the closest we will ever come to love".

So please, dear readers, I ask you to vote for Raindrop. Or as I like to call him, "Butterdrop".
